Are Camps Covered by NDIS?

Yes, NDIS funds camps for children, teens, and adults with disability. Here's what you need to know.

YES, NDIS-funded camps are available for all ages

How NDIS funds camps

NDIS-funded camps are one of the most popular support types, giving participants a chance to try new activities, build independence, make friends, and have genuine adventures away from their usual environment.

The funding source depends on the type of camp:

Day camps

Core Supports, Social and Community Participation

Single-day or multi-day camps where the participant returns home each night. Funded from your Social and Community Participation budget. No STA required.

Overnight camps

Core Supports, Short Term Accommodation (STA)

Multi-night camps where participants sleep away from home. Requires Short Term Accommodation in your plan. Counts toward your annual STA allocation (up to 28 days).

What NDIS camps typically cover

  • Support worker wages throughout the camp
  • Activities and programs run by the provider
  • Meals and accommodation (for overnight camps)
  • Transport to and from the camp location
  • All necessary personal care and support during the camp

Requirements

Camps must be run by a registered NDIS provider if your plan is Agency-Managed. Plan-managed and self-managed participants can use unregistered providers, though registered providers offer the highest level of safety and quality assurance.

For overnight camps, you'll need Short Term Accommodation in your Core Supports budget. If it's not in your current plan, raise it at your next plan review or speak with your Support Coordinator.

Tips for booking an NDIS camp

  1. Check your plan before you book

Confirm you have the right budget, Social and Community Participation for day camps, or Short Term Accommodation for overnight camps. Your Support Coordinator can check this for you.

  2. Book early, especially for school holidays

Popular NDIS camp programs fill up months in advance. Don't wait until the week before school holidays to look. Get in touch with providers early in the term.

  3. Tell the provider about support needs upfront

A good NDIS camp provider will ask about your support needs before you arrive. Be honest and detailed, it helps them staff appropriately and ensures the best experience for everyone.
