What are NDIS-funded camps?
NDIS-funded camps are structured programs for people with disability, run by registered NDIS providers. They include support workers, adapted activities, and smaller group sizes to ensure every participant can take part safely and meaningfully.
Depending on the type of camp, they're funded through different parts of your NDIS plan. Day camps typically sit under Core Supports (Assistance with Social and Community Participation), while overnight camps are funded under Short Term Accommodation (STA). Both require a registered provider and staff with current NDIS Worker Screening clearances.
Types of camps
- School holiday camps for children and young people aged 5-17, run during each school holiday break. These are day programs (no overnight stay) and are funded under Core Supports.
- Adult camps overnight programs for participants aged 18 and over. Activities include sport, social events, excursions, and group meals. Funded under Short Term Accommodation (STA).
- Specialist camps themed camps focused on a specific activity or interest, such as surf camps, music camps, or farm stays. Funding depends on the program structure.
How are camps funded?
Day camps are funded under Core Supports, specifically Assistance with Social and Community Participation (line item 04_). This covers the cost of support workers, activities, and program delivery.
Overnight camps are funded under Short Term Accommodation (STA), which sits in Core Supports (line item 01_). STA funding covers accommodation, meals, and support during the stay. The NDIA sets a daily rate for STA, your provider will confirm what's included and any gap fees.
Both types must be delivered by a registered NDIS provider with NDIS Worker Screening checked staff. If you're self-managed or plan-managed, check with your plan manager about which providers you can use.
